Moved by various antecedents of Prof David Olufemi Bamgbose, the Youth for Better Governance has revealed its readiness to mobilise youths across Ogun State to vote for him as the next governor of the state in 2023.
President of the Group, Tundebabs Akintimehin disclosed this during a media briefing held in Abeokuta on Thursday urging him to vie for the office as they were ready to help him become the governor of the state through their voting power.
In his address, Akintimehin who used the event to elaborate on various qualities Prof. Bamgbose possesses stressed that they were supporting him after very careful research into personalities parading the leadership position in Ogun State.
He said: “We the Youth for Better Nigeria has concluded that with the our observations and many other reasons, we are standing to encourage Prof David Olufemi Bamgbose to vie and win into the office of the Governor of Ogun State.
“The very important issue that can impact the youths of the state can be secured through a good governance, Concern of youth are access to good education, employment, entrepreneurship opportunities etc are responsibilities of a good government.
“This is why we the concerned youths have come together to form this group for the propagation and encouragement of the establishment of good governance in every area of our political structure.
“Majority of voters in our political body are youth and also all families will have something to do with the youths.”
Furthermore, he affirmed that residency in the state have been very unfortunate in the choice of governors in the area of choosing somebody who is resident in Ogun state prior to the election into the office of Governor.
“With this the trend which started with the first of others military administrator with Gen. Oladayo Popoola. (Rtd), Gen. Raji Rasaki (Rtd), Navy Commodore Kayode Olofinmoyin (Rtd), Navy Commodore Sam Ewang (Rtd).
“They were all none indigenes appointed by the military Head of State, even though they contributed their quotas to the development of our dear state, they were all none indigenes.
“For the indigenes General Oladipupo Diya, Chief Olusegun Osoba, Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and the incumbent Dr. Dapo Abiodun, even though they are indigene, but they all had their work, carrier and businesses outside of Ogun state before assuming office.
“The effect of this is that the people elected will not be familiar with entrenched problem of the citizen and will bring outsider to work with them.
“Also, it will discourage investment in our dear state, resident who attempted governorship in Ogun state almost lost their business in the processes.
“The people elected will appoint majority of their cabinet from diaspora, they will be comfortable to work with the people they are familiar with. This is a great disservice to faithfully people enduring the upcoming economy of our dear state.
“Prof. David Olufemi Bamgbose have been involved for decades in Ogun State, he is part of the neighborhood and members of CDA’S in Ogun State. He has established and run over 80% of his business in Ogun State and is involved in day-to-day activities in the state.
“He mingled with the people of all classes easily and knows where the shoe pinches.
“All these were the strategies to look into the antecedents and competence of the gladiators in the political arena and recommend anyone who the group feels will serve the best interest of the youth to the larger society and the general populace using the instruments of prints and social media,” he concluded.
