World Environment Day: Ogun To Award Industries On Environmental Best Practices

Ogun State Government through the Ministry of Environment has lined various programmes to mark the 2022 World Environment Day celebration slated for Tuesday, June 7th, 2022.

Part of events lined up for the celebration include awards in different categories to industries for promotion of global best practices in responsible production and the management of environment.

Ola Oresanya, Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment stated this on Friday in a press statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, state capital.

Oresanya affirmed that the state government would reward deserving industries for carbon emission reduction, promotion of circular economy, pollution control, response to regulatory feedbacks and readiness to mitigate identified gaps.

He remarked that this year’s celebration being the 50th edition is marked worldwide on the 5th of June every year to draw attention to issues affecting the environment.

Adding that the theme for this year’s landmark celebration “Only One Earth” is a call for collective transformation action on a global scale to celebrate, protect
and restore the planet and common home.

“The celebration is a call to practical guide to living sustainably in harmony with nature. The theme is so unique to Ogun State, which is the Industrial hub of the nation and the West Africa sub-region.

“The consciousness for protection of our fragile ecosystem forms the bedrock of our conviction and commitment to promotion of environmental best practices while living sustainably in harmony with nature.

“Ogun State Government will host this year’s celebration on Tuesday 7th June. The events lined up for the celebration include awards in different categories to industries for promotion of global best practices in responsible production and the management of environment.

“The awards will also reward deserving industries for carbon emission reduction, promotion of circular economy, pollution control, response to regulatory feedbacks and readiness to mitigate identified gaps.

“The event scheduled for Banquet Hall of the June 12 Cultural Centre Kuto, Abeokuta will also have a lecture titled “Living Sustainably in Harmony
with Nature, Curbing the Menace of Climate Change Biodiversity
Loss and Plastic Waste”

“Tree Planting in six secondary schools in the state with Environment Clubs will also form part of events of the golden jubilee celebration,” he stated.
