Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Salihu AbdulWaheed Adelabu has been charged to throw more light on the status of the Governing Council of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.

Also, he was asked to explain the recent advertisment in Nigerian Tribune on Friday, February 16th, 2024 for filling the vacant post of Vice Chancellor of the University.

These requests were made by the Moral Compass, a non-governmental organisation in an open letter written to the commissioner on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024 which was jointly signed by Abdullahi Ogundele, Chairman and Gabriel Alade, Secretary of the organisation.

In the letter, the Ogbomosho based group wrote: “We write to seek more enlightenment on the recent advertisment on page 8 of Nigerian Tribune on Friday, February 16th, 2024 for filling the vacant post of Vice Chancellor, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

“We humbly want you to throw more light on the status of the Governing Council on the university. Has it been dissolved or is it one of the statutory boards/councils that were not dissolved?

“Secondly, if the Governing Council has been dissolved, we equally humbly want to ask if a dissolved council has any legal right to place any advertisment or any action for that matter on the university.

“Thirdly, the Charter of February 20th, 2020 that made Oyo State the sole owner of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso spells out in details the operational guidelines for the day to day running of the University.

“We want to know if any of these guidelines have been violated. No doubt Oyo State is a pacesetter. And we commend Governor Seyi Makinde for the feat attained in the education sector. Posterity will not forget him.

“However, it will be reduction to absurdity if a wise man dies in the hand of a foolish man. To put it in the words of late Orlando Owoh ‘E get as he be o’. Please, look into it lest the enemies within and without laugh at us.”
