Gen. Oscar Iyare (rtd) has inched closer to equal the former world number one golfer, Tiger Woods record of 15 major trophies.
The retired Air Force General on Tuesday landed another major trophy at Mavericks Kitty Group Monthly Mug/Birthday Kitty, July edition held at Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) with a net score of 70, thus beat 25 other golfers at the event.
With this victory, the BCGS golfer has now recorded his 14th trophies, a trophy less than Tiger Woods Record of 15 major trophies.
Prof. Anthony Emina, Professor of Development Economics at University of Benin was hereby adjudged as the best gross winner with a total of 87 gross.
However, the joint second winners were Chairman of the MKG, Elder Monday Ikhureigbe and Hon. Osazuwa Ehiorobo, who won the June edition of the kitty having both played 86 net respectively.
In his remarks, Elder Ikhureigbe acknowledged the need to celebrate with seven of their members born in July with the kitty. They were Edward Aibangbee Esq.; Hon. Osazuwa Ehiorobo; Okakuro Gilbert Aghogho; Eghosa Otabor; Hon. Ero Osemwingie; Ehigie Omoregie and Abraham Uhunmwagho.
Similarly, Peter Oboro, Secretary of MKG in chat with Newsnigeriaonline.com.ng noted that it was indeed great thing to felicitate with the celebrants despite the economic challenges in the country.
He commended members for coming out in large numbers to play at the kitty which showed the level of affinity among members, and how they highly liked the celebrants by risking their lives in spite of the protest in the country.
Also, in his winner’s speech, Gen. Iyare hinted that his victory was as a result of adequate preparation, really settled down to play the kitty and to ensure victory at last.
“Naturally every winner is happy about whatever he wins, and having acvhieved this, before the year ends, I want to win more trophies to equal and to surpass Tiger Woods record.
“I have won the BCGS Monthly mug, won the Mavericks Kitty monthly mug, and I want to enquire if the UBTH Golf club monthly mug has not been played so that I can go there to win all the July edition,” he stated.
Highlights of the event was presentation of trophy to the winner, and other items to the gross winner and runners-up while celebration toast was led by the Chairman to honour celebrants.
Meanwhile, in the mood of celebration, a new song titled ‘more beer’ composed by the secretary, Oboro was widely chorused by all members, and it has been adopted as one of the celebration songs henceforth.
