
The Sapele Athletic Club (SAC) Golf Section Captain’s Inaugural Golf Tournament has officially teed-off this morning at the golf course, Sapele, Delta State.
The tournament commenced yesterday as some members of the club had their playing moments. Also, the guests arrival boosted the Captain’s cocktail which was another historic event as the entertainment lasted till night.
Opening the course for business of the day are the trio of Dan Ikpeama, Christopher Odudu and Anthony Unuavowhoro by 7:00am while another set comprises of Alex Isioma, O Ologun and Reuben Mgbodi Esq., holds 10 minutes later.
However, Captain of the golf section, Alexander Verhees will perform the traditional tee-off alongside his executives and other guests as the game progresses, after that he will be on the course playing with Jimmy Odogwu and Chief Azano by 8:30am.
Also playing by 8:50am are BCGS Lady Captain, Betty Oriakhi, fmr BCGS Lady Captain, Dr. Florence Osagiede and Sala Oise Esq from UBTH Golf Club.
In the same vein, by 9:00am will be the turn of charismatic Princess Habiibah Oyege Oyarekhua, LGAN Head of Media, fmr BCGS Lady Captain, E. Edokplor and Ehis Igbinadolor, past Lady Captain, UBTH Golf Club.
Similarly, the 9:20am battle will involve BCGS Captain, Joseph Idahosa aka Joezaza, fmr Captain of Ibori Golf and Country Club (IGCC), Alfred Ebreneyin, and J. Ijoko.
Moreover, the last set of golfers at the event are expected to tee-off before noon while the presentation of prizes is slated for evening at the club house.
Newsnigeriaonline.com.ng recalls that about 100 golfers from the South-South zone and beyond are teeing-off at the tournament being organized under the leadership of Captain of the club, Alexander Verhees in conjunction with his Executive team.
In chat with the Captain of the club, Alexander Verhees, he noted that the tournament teed-off with club members on Friday while the captain’s cocktail was held in the evening.
He hereby assured that golfers should expect a high quality and well organised tournament, and to celebrate the oldest golf course in Nigeria and willing to support the improvement of the golf club
He said: “This is the third tournament to be organised this year. We are working with the rain doctors in Sapele to bring sunshine today.
“We are expecting a full house and as many golfers as for their last Orodje of Okpe Golf Tournament whereby they had over 100 players.”
Sapele Athletic Club is located in Okpe Community GRA, Sapele. It is legacy bequeathed by British traders from Elder Dempster and Company Limited and those from African Timber and Plywood Company (AT&P) in 1897 before the amalgamation of Nigeria in 1914.
