S/West Zonal Elimination: Ogun Records Double Victory Over Ondo

Team Ogun began its campaign on a good note with a double victory over Team Ondo at the ongoing South-West Zonal Elimination for the 6th National Youth Games on Thursday.

The Ogun State youthful football team pipped Ondo Team by one goal to nothing scored in the 57 minutes of the encounter courtesy of Abdul Lateef Azeez.

The match being the first game in Group A played at the Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort stadium was tension filled as both teams exercised their prowess to score in the first half, but good defensive displayed robbed both of the needed goal.

However, on resumption of the second half, Ondo boys came out stronger, wanted to take the lead, but was thwarted by the defensive hard work from Ogun boys whose stood firm to deny them of the goal, only for Ogun to score in the 57 minutes and sealed the victory to record maximum three points.

Similarly, Team Ogun volleyball players also recorded their names in victory as they followed the footsteps of their football players by beating same Ondo boys by two straight sets of 25/8, 25/14.

The first set of the match saw the Ogun boys taken the lead from the blast of the whistle as the match ended 25/8, but the Sunshine State boys came out stronger in the second set, only to lose by of 25/14, a better result than the first set.

However, in what could have become third victory for Ogun State through girls in handball game was flopped as they lost narrowly 16/17 to Lagos Team.

The Gateway State girls wasted many several scoring chances that could have earned them the victory, despite massive support given by the Ogun State Sports Council (OGSSC), Director of Sports, Mrs. Folakemi Iyabode Rotimi, and other management staff in attendance.

Meanwhile, Ogun State volleyball team in the boys category had their second match this afternoon and defeated Lagos Team by two straight sets.
