The duo of Professor Oyewale Tomori and Professor Christian Happi of Redeemer’s University (RUN), Ede, Osun State have been inducted as emeritus fellow and fellow respectively by the Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria.
They were inducted alongside other intellectual juggernauts during the investiture ceremony held at Radisson Blu Hotel in Lagos on Thursday, July 29th, 2021.
With two of its iconic figures and globally celebrated scholars induction, Redeemer’s University name has once again reverberated across Nigerian media space.
Professor Tomori, a foremost virologist, educational administrator, pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University; and also board chair of several international multilateral health bodies was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field of virology.
It will be recalled that through Professor Tomori’s illustrious career that spans over five decades, he has contributed significantly to the fight against the elimination of some of the world’s deadliest diseases through scholarship, mentoring, and health governance.
In the same vein, Professor Happi, a molecular biologist, inventor and celebrated Redeemer’s University’s Director of African Centre of Excellence for Genomic of Infectious Diseases was recognized for his groundbreaking discoveries in pathogens, translational genomics applications in outbreaks preemption, response; and public health preparedness.
He was also elected the pioneer Chair, Research and Ethics Committee of the academy.
These two intellectual gladiators, who were inducted into the academy, are now listed among 126 foremost experts, practitioners, and who’s who in various specialisations in the field of Medicine in Nigeria.
