Prince Toba Lifts BCGS Monthly Mug/Handicap Celebration Golf Trophy


Prince Joshua Toba prevailed at the Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) Monthly Mug/Handicap Celebration held at the golf course, GRA, Benin City over the weekend with a net score of 67.

Prince Toba, handicap 23 against all odds emerged overall best champion in an amazing fashion as he tutored all other contestants through the 18 holes game.

With this victory, Prince Toba has exclusive right to use the vehicle parking lot solely reserved for winner till when another monthly mug would be organised by the club next month.

Similarly, in spite of the traveling stress, Engr. Benedict Oghumah (hcp 10) played 73 net to win the men’s cadre ahead of Gen. Oscar Iyare (hcp 11) who played 74 net while Stephen Ebaretonbofa (hcp 10) picked the third spot. Osazee Iyare won the best gross trophy with 84 gross.

The ladies category trophy went to LGAN National Vice President, South-South Zone, Sandra Emina (hcp 14) having played 73 net. Dr. Caroline Bakare (hcp 28) settled for second position with 78 net just as Princess Nkeruika Awiaka (hcp 18) with 80 net rested at third spot.

Also, Engr. Basil Idahosa (hcp 21) win the veteran men’s award with an exciting 74 net while second place Monday Ikhureigbe (hcp 14) beat Sylvester Akhigbe (hcp 20) on count-back having both played 76 net respectively. Dr. John Ogbeide (hcp 25) emerged winner in the super veteran men’s cadre with 77 net.

In his speech, Prince Toba attributed his victory to determination to break the jinx of winning the monthly mug, noting that he aspired to win more tournaments before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, all the highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates of membership and handicap 28 to three new members who had passed the mandatory training to become golfers.

Also, the cutting of birthday cake for those who were born in the month of June was anchored by Mrs. Betty Oriakhi, the Vice Captain of the BCGS Ladies Division while the event lasted. recallsĀ  that Steve Zhang was the overall winner at the last edition of the BCGS Monthly Mug/Birthday Celebration Golf Kitty held in June.

Zhang victory made it the second time he won barely six months after he received his handicap from the club, while he has been regarded as one of the fastest growing golfers in recent time.
