Poaching Of Ogun Athletes By Other States Is Worrisome – GM Tells Commissioner

The General Manager, Ogun State Sports Council, Mrs. Folakemi Iyabode Rotimi has expressed worrisome on the issue of poaching of Ogun athletes by other states.

She hereby suggested that the antidotes to the problem are the provision of modern equipment and payment of competitive maintenance allowances to the athletes.

This was her submission when the newly appointed Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka paid a familiarization visit to the management and members of staff of the sports council at Ijeja, Abeokuta on Thursday, October 19th, 2023.

The commissioner who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Qudus Yusuff, arrived to a rousing welcome of the sporting family of the council.

However, he used the opportunity of the visit to tour the sporting arena, and was able to have on-the-spot assessment of all the facilities and equipment being used at the stadium.

Meanwhile, the Director of Stadia, Mr Sola Adebajo Les the commissioner and others to conduct the facilities tour of the stadium.

In her welcome address, Mrs Rotimi expressed the happiness and readiness of the entire management and staffs of the council to work harmoniously with the commissioner.

She also introduced and explained the organogram of the sports council and discussed many other things to the commissioner.

The GM said: “On the issue of poaching of athletes by other states, the antidotes to the problem are the provision of modern equipment and payment of competitive maintenance allowances to the athletes.”

In his response, the commissioner told the audience that the preparation for the refurbishments of the sporting facilities as well as procurement of equipment is in top gear.

He also revealed that the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun is ready to support everything that will make the forthcoming National Sports Festival in 2024 a huge success in the state.
