Pharmacist Duke Otite has broken the elusive trophy jinx as he emerged winner at the Mavericks Kitty Group (MKG) Monthly/Mug Birthday Kitty held at Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS), Edo State.
The monthly mug/birthday kitty was organized by the group in honour of its members who celebrated their birthdays in the month. They were Engr. Emmanuel Omofuma; Tony Aideyan; Dr. Gabriel Ihenyen; Chiji Onwuzuruike and fmr BCGS Captain, Ignatius Aigbokhaode.
Otite claimed the first trophy of his golfing career by playing a net score of 74 to win the April edition of the kitty, while the first runner-up and second runner-up were Chief Afam Obanor, Felix Agans, and Sam Awiaka respectively.
Similarly, Gen. Oscar Iyare (rtd,) emerged as the best gross player with a total of 89 gross.
The elated Otite in his victory remarks expressed appreciation to all members of the kitty group for the show of love and hospitality when he joined the group.
However, in a chat with Newsnigeriaonline.com.ng, he noted: “Obviously, I am very happy and excited because I have been in the game of golf for slightly above one year, and it has been a long time calling with some shortfall and disappointment.
“But today, I will say entering the Hall of Fame of this prestigious Mavericks Kitty Group is a big honour, a lifetime honour that I will cherish. Actually, saying this is my first major trophy because several times I had come close to winning. I places second at the BCGS Monthly Mug twice.
“So, as a result of winning this title, the elusive trophy jinx has been broken. My target is to dominate and win more trophies before the year ends, at least eight more.”
Meanwhile, the presentation of winner’s trophy was done by the Chairman of the group, Lawson A. Ugiagbe esq., just as prayers were offered for all the celebrants while entertainment of members and guests followed.
