Okpe Monarch, HRM Mujaperuo Tees-Off Orodje Of Okpe Golf Tourney

His Royal Majesty (HRM), Major General Felix Mujaperuo (rtd) has officially teed-off the 4th Orodje of Okpe Golf Tournament at Sapele Athletic Club Golf Section, Delta State on Saturday.

The 2022 edition proudly sponsored by Seplat Energy is to commemorate the 15th Coronation Anniversary of the monarch, the Grand Patron of Nigeria’s oldest golf club, Sapele Athletic Club 1897.

The Okpe Monarch, an avid golfer while performing the ceremonial tee-off exhibited his golfing skill to the admiration of the Captain of the section, Okakuro Gilbert Aghogho; Walter Egemba, General Manager Engineering at Seplat Energy; immediate past Captain, Okakuro Peter Asagba.

Others at the event were Professor Nyerovwo Tonikari, President of the Club; Okakuro Owumi Anthony (JP); Vice Captain, Eric Esiri; Lady Captain, Lucky Akpieye; Okakuro Godwin Egigba; Okakuro Akpobecha, Personal Assistant to Orodje, and many others who witnessed the event at hole one.

The elated monarch, who also is the Chairman, Traditional Rulers Council of Delta State applauded the club and the sponsor, Seplat Energy for putting up the tournament that attracted over one hundred and fifty golfers to the town.

In his admonition, he urged all stakeholders to use the game of golf as a means of campaign for good living among the youths so as to enhance good and habitable society. Pledging his support henceforth for the game and all other activities at the club.

Similarly, Engr. Walter who expressed satisfaction at the tournament so far stated that they are always looking for improvement, adding that the section has increased the anthem, hoping that it would continually be better on yearly basis.

“In terms of the effort and what it brings to the town of Sapele and Kingdom of Okpe, it is what we are pleased with and as a company, we are committed to this. We love the town, love the kingdom and the Orodje of Okpe kingdom. This is his tournament, so as a corporate organisation, we will always support him,” he said.

However, as at early this morning, guests golfers across various clubs in Nigeria began to tee-off in pursuit of the converted trophies and other prizes.

It could be recalled that all the club golfers had their playing period on Friday to make way for golfers who came from outside the club and state, as part of the section strategy to change the playing pattern of the game.

Newsnigeriaonline.com.ng recalls that golfers from Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba; Ogunnu Golf Resort, Warri; Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS); UBTH Golf Club, Benin City. Arsenal Golf Club, Owerri, Imo State; IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja; Ikoyi Golf Club, Lagos and many others are taking part in the tournament.
