Qualifiers for the finals of the ongoing JKF South-West Invitational Tennis Tournament will be decided today at Ekiti State Tennis Courts, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital.
The tennis championship which served-off on Wednesday, June 9th will finally comes to a close tomorrow, June 12th, 2021 at the centre, while tennis lovers, sports fans and dignitaries across the state and country will grace the occasion.
The tennis tournament being packaged by Yemi Owoseni led Ekiti State Tennis Association Board is sponsored by Iloro Ekiti based VOKI Sports Academy to enhance development of the racket game in the state and Nigeria in general.
Moreover, players from all the six states that comprised of the south-west zone namely Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti are participating in the event that has lifted to the yearnings and aspirations of the organiser’s.
In today’s men’s last four pairings, Philip Abayomi (Lagos) will battle Kushmor Usman (Ogun) in the first game, while Daniel Adeleye (Ekiti) has a game plan against his compatriot, Nurudeen Ayo Adebisi in the other semifinal.
Similarly, the women’s category semifinals will see Esther Oni (Ekiti) playing Aderemi Omolade (Ondo), just as Toyin Asogba (Lagos) and Marian Salami (Ekiti) will square up to determine the finalist.
It could be recalled that the tennis tournament is for the best two most ranked players in each state from the south-west states, and the third tennis events to be organised by the state tennis association in the past two months.
Meanwhile, a minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for the late Coach Oliver of Ekiti State University (EKSU), who passed away on Tuesday evening.
