It was fruitful deliberations on Thursday as National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, and his entourage met the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to deliberate on the way forward for better Nigeria.
The meeting held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, Ogun State capital also had in attendance the PDP National Secretary, Senator Ibrahim Tsauri; National Treasurer, Aribisala Adewale, Dr. Umar; Ogun State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Sikirulai Ogundele, members of the state executives, and many others.
Though, the meeting was held behind closed door, but they were able to address the media men who waited for over two hours to get the outcome of the deliberations at the board room.
Chief Obasanjo in his usual leadership trait spoke extensively on the situation of the country as well as proffering solutions to various problems facing this country.
In his admonition, Baba as fondly called narrated that every right thinking individuals would know that Nigeria situation is very bad, and that there was no need to deceive the citizens, but added that the situation was not hopelessly irredeemable.
He remarked that Nigeria is not where its supposed to be to as at now, and that such act could have repercussion that would eventually affect the country, Africa and globally.
He advised the the present government not to see international communities as enemies for telling them on what they need to do. Urging them to sit down and diagnose their various advises and contributions.
However, in his jovial attributes, Obasanjo said: I still have more dues to pay to Nigeria as long as I am still alive. Nigeria belongs to all of us, nobody can decide the fate of people. Posterity, and history will judge us.
“You have not visited me because of partisan politics, but you have visited me as a person who is concerned about where Nigeria is and where Nigeria may be descending into if the right action is not taken.
“And I couldn’t agree with you more, every right thinking Nigerian and every lover of Nigeria will agree that Nigeria is not what it should be today, unless there is something else wrong with them.
“The situation is bad, very bad, but the situation is not irredeemable. That is where the hope lies. The situation is very bad, but it is not hopelessly irredeemable. Therefore we need all hands to be on deck.
“Let us put partisan politics apart, and think of what we can do to get Nigeria to where it is supposed to be and move Nigeria forward.”
Meanwhile, the PDP National Chairman said he visited former president Chief Olusegun in Abeokuta to discuss with him, the situation of the country.
Secondus who addressed newsmen after the meeting remarked that he came with his entourage to meet Baba Obasanjo as an elder statesman to advice on the present government.
He affirmed: “I am here with the members of my team and as well as the PDP Executives in Ogun State to tap from the wealth of baba’s knowledge as an elder statesman.
“It has been very difficult lately because baba is a global personality, resolving issues across the world. In fact, the last place I learnt about that baba visited was Afghanistan, despite the situation in that country, he went there and came back alive.
“So, my team and I are very grateful and we give glory to God. We have discussed about Nigeria. Nigeria first before any other thing. Yes, we belong to a political party, but if we don’t have a country, where do we practice the democracy.
“We need to have a peaceful country where democracy can strive and at this point we need Chief Obasanjo to come in with solutions.
“We are aware of the insecurity in the country, the poor economy, banditry, kidnapping all over the country; and we can’t continue to watch without reaching out to the elders so that they can come to gather and advise the present government, that is the duty of an elder statesman.”
