Oba Ewuare Performs Ceremonial Tee-Off At Oba Of Benin Golf Tournament

His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, Oba of Benin Kingdom on Saturday performed the ceremonial tee-off at the 8th Oba of Benin Golf Tournament held at Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS), Edo State.

The Benin Monarch ably represented by Prince Aghatise Erediuwa performed the royal tees-off, thanked the management of BCGS for organising the tournament that has become household name in the Nigeria Golf Federation calendar events.

Speaking after the royal tee-off Prince Aghatise described the tournament as the biggest golf tournament in the South South zone. “It is to promote love and unity in the country. His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare has since inception of the tournament given it full backing.

“It is a tournament that every aspire to play on yearly basis. Oba is the Grand Patron of Benin Club, he has been having cordial and harmonious relationship with all the club members irrespective of tribes or ethnicity.”

In the same vein, Captain of the BCGS, Mayer Ologbosere said: “Every golfers in Nigeria look forward to this event, they know the significant of the tournament. It is a great tournament, prestigious fof us because the trophy will be handed over to the winner by the Oba. So that makes it unique.

“Once the tournament finished, the club will present the winner to the Oba, his name will engraved on the trophy. I am grateful to God that this tournament is holding during my tenure, and looking ahead to more tournaments. I am happy to be part of the history making.”

Though, the professional golfers teed-off golfing actions on Wednesday through Thursday while handicaps 0-28 men, and 0-36 ladies as well as veterans and super veterans teed-off on Friday just as the cocktail party was held too.

However, on Saturday, hcp 0-18 men as well as hcp 0-28 ladies and all guests are already on the course exhibiting their golfing skills, while the dinner and presentation of trophies and prizes is slated for 6pm.

Newsnigeriaonline.com.ng recalls that Osazee Iyare, now hcp four emerged overall winner at the 7th edition held 2018 while the emergence of COVID-19 halted further editions.

Also, the Oba Cup tournament being one of the biggest golf events in the South-South Nigeria is featuring over two hundred amateur and professional golfers from various clubs in the country.

Meanwhile, golfers from Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba; Ogunnu Golf Resort, Warri; Sapele Athletic Club, Delta State. UBTH Golf Club, Benin City; IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja; Ikoyi Golf Club, Lagos; Arsenal Golf Club, Owerri, Imo State; and many others were participating in the event.

Winners in each category will take home trophies and other prizes, while individual performances such as longest drive, and nearest the pin will be rewarded too.
