NUC Congratulates Prof. Oyewole On His Appointment As Secretary-General AAU

National Universities Commission (NUC) has congratulated Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole for his well deserved appointment as Secretary General, Association of African Universities (AAU).

Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed stated this in a congratulatory message he personally signed, and dated August 23rd, 2021.

Prof. Rasheed in the letter titled: ‘Congratulations on your appointment as Secretary-General of the Association of African Universities’, eulogised Prof. Oyewole antecedents as a scholar of distinction.

Adding that he has satisfied various secondary and primary leadership function positions rising to the pinnacle of his career, which has placed him on a solid pedestal to spearhead the much needed reforms in order to surmount the challenges confronting African higher education.

He said: “I have received with outmost pride and deep sense of fulfilment, the good news of your recent appointment as the Secretary-General of the Association of African Universities (AAU).

“The appointment I believe has been made in recognition of your sterling qualities as a visionary leader, a seasoned university administrator as well as a scholar of international repute. This is also an indication that your huge contributions to the developed of university education in Nigeria and the African continent, have not been in vain.

“We recall that as a scholar of distinction, you have satisfied various secondary and primary leadership function positions rising to the pinnacle of your career. Your antecedent as a former Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), a Professor of Food Science and Technology.

“And as a senior expert in higher education (having worked for the African Union Commission and AAU), have therefore, placed you on a solid pedestal to spearhead the much needed reforms in order to surmount the challenges confronting African higher education.”

“Consequently, I write on behalf of the Management, Staff of NUC and the entire Nigerian University System (NUS), to most healthy congratulate you on your well deserved appointment. I am confident that with your wealth of experience, you will succeed in taking Africa’s higher education portfolio to enviable heights.

“Let me also re-assure you of the unwavering commitment of the Commission in partnership with the Association in those crosscutting areas that would be mutually beneficial to both NUC in particular, and the NUS in general.
