Ndarake Does It Again, Wins At 9th Enugu Ladies Open Golf Championship

Love Ndarake has added another trophy to the collection of trophies in her shelves as she won the 9th Enugu Ladies Open Golf Championship concluded over the weekend in Enugu State.

The ladies open which teed-off on Thursday at the Enugu Sports Club Golf Section with about 150 golfers in attendance was adjudged the best championship organized in the South-East Zone of LGAN.

At the end of the energy sapping ladies hcp 0 – 18 category, Ndarake (hcp 8) played a total of 166 gross over two days to win the event having won the 2nd Aba Ladies Open Championship in Abia State held two weeks ago.

Placing second behind the winner was Osinachi Ezeafulukwe (hcp 9) who lost on count-back as she played 166 gross too. Blessing Obaje (hcp 9) and Rita Izoje (hcp 9) recorded 167 and 172 gross to place third and fourth respectively.

Furthermore, Patience Abechi (hcp 21) consolidated on her 90 gross played on Day 1 to eventually win the ladies hcp 19 – 28 category on Day 2 with a total of 186 gross while Prinye Obuaya (hcp 19) with 189 gross settled for second position.

In the third position was Ezinne Ukaga (hcp 22) for playing 191 gross just as Joyce Nule (hcp 20) picked the fourth place with 192 gross.

The ladies hcp 29 – 36 category played on Thursday was won by Nkem Agbo with a total of 105 gross. Chizoba Ogbonna settled for the second spot with 111 gross while Amaka Achebe and Chioma Okomah played 113 and 114 gross respectively to place third and fourth.

Other winners included Comfort Jerry Kalu who played 245 gross over two days to win the ladies veteran cadre. Ethel Anyaji won the ladies super veteran award with 102 gross as Helga Oji placed second with 112 gross.

It was a fierce battle in the men’s hcp 0 – 28 category as Sunday Udeh (hcp 2) played 76 gross to win the event ahead of second placed Arinze Okafor (hcp 8) who recorded 80 gross. Third placed Michael Isife (hcp 5) had 81 gross just as Tony Egwu (hcp 8) played 86 gross to be in fourth position.

Moreover, the men’s veteran category produced Ikpeama Vincent (hcp 13) as winner with a gross score of 89 while Ralph Ugwu (hcp 16). Frank Ileje (hcp 12) and Chijioke Okeke (hcp 14) were in third and fourth position.

Also, Ken Ugwu (hcp 14) beat Laz Mba (hcp 13) on count-back to win the super veteran category having both played 55 gross at the event.

However, Nikea -David Eyo (hcp 5) played hard to win the sponsors event with 78 gross. Asogwa Charles (hcp 8) and Anozike Emma (hcp 12) were adjudged second and third place winner for playing 82 and 84 gross.

Therefore, in the individual categories, Alice Dovi and fmr. BCGS Lady Captain, Princess Habiibah Oyege Oyarekhua won the Day 1 and 2 best gross award respectively.

In the same vein, Ezinne Ukaga won the Day 1 ladies nearest the pin hole 1 event while Adaugo Martins won the Day 2 award. Also, the Day 1 longest drive award on hole 18 went to Osinachi Ezeafulukwe just as Blessing Obaje won the Day 2 event.

Highlights of the championship was the presentation of trophies and different prizes to golfers that excelled in various categories during the three days event organized by the Enugu Sports Club Golf Section, Ladies Sub-Section under the Lady Captain, Dr Obiageli Pat Ndu.
