
The colourful atmosphere and uniqueness of guests at the closing ceremony of Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) Lady Captain Inaugural Golf Tournament was talk of the moment as fmr. Lady Captain, Suwadetu Mahmud and Ehis Igbinadolor shined at the event.
The inaugural tournament packaged by the BCGS Ladies Division led by Lady Captain, Betty Oriakhi featured over 150 golfers from Ibori Golf and Country Club (IGCC,), Asaba, Ogunu Golf Resort, Warri, Sapele Athletic Club, Sapele, UBTH Golf Club, Benin-City and amongst.
Mahmud (hcp 19) emerged winner in the ladies category with a net score of 72 while South-South Zonal Vice-President of LGAN, Sandra Emina (hcp 14) placed second with 73 net having beaten C. N. Edeki (hcp 29) on count-back. Edith Edeki picked the fourth position with 75 net.
In the same vein, Igbinadolor, BCGS Ladies Division Competition Secretary swiped three awards at the event. She won the best gross award with 86 gross, the longest drive, and nearest the pin prizes respectively.
Gen. Oscar Iyare (rtd) set age aside to beat BCGS House Officer, Eghosa Otabor on count-back in the men’s category as they both played 72 net just as fmr. captain, Osagie Nehikhare (hcp 16) played 74 net to settle for third spot.
Also, Osazee Iyare (hcp 3) won double at the event having emerged winner of the best gross with 77 gross as well as the longest drive award.
Prof. O. A. Dawodu (hcp 31) clinched the ladies veteran award having gathered 76 net ahead of Maryam Benka-Coker (hcp 28) who had 82 net while fmr. lady captain, Juliet Ugiagbe (hcp 29) settled the third place hurdle with 85 net
Mama Ivie Iyoha experienced no struggle as she won the ladies super veteran category trophy with a net score of 90.
In the men’s veteran, Sir Tony Aghedo (hcp 17) was unstoppable with amazing 69 net to clinch the trophy. On the second spot was fmr. President of Benin Club 1931, Lawson A. Ugiagbe esq., (hcp 26, who had earlier won nearest the pin award) with 73 net while fmr. captain, Chief Afam Obanor (hcp 19) placed third with 75 net.
The ladies guest award was won by F. Akpan (hcp 26) for playing 65 net thus beat F. Adam (hcp 26) who had 72 net while S. Asagba (hcp 23) with 67 net won the men’s category ahead of K. Dirisu (hcp 4) who played 77 net.
In her remarks, lady captain Oriakhi appreciated Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu and Secretary to State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie esq. and all members for making the tournament a reality through their various supports.
She hereby enjoined all ladies in the club and beyond not to relent in their quest to be on top of their games at all.
Similarly, Captain of the club, Joseph Idahosa thanked all the golfers that featured at the event especially those who came from outside the state for their show of love to the lady captain and BCGS as a whole, praying for journey mercy back to their respective places.
However, he used the occasion to invite them and other golfers who could not make it to the lady captain inaugural to avail themselves of his inaugural tournament billed for this weekend, May 27th – 28th at the club.
