GATIG Will Boost Sports Development In Ogun- Perm Sec

The Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Engr. Olayiwola Abiodun has expressed confidence that the ongoing Gateway Tertiary Institutions Games (GATIG) among public and private institutions would boost sport development in the state.

Abiodun stated this as the GATIG Games commenced at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu on Sunday, May 15 through Wednesday, May 18, 2022.

In his revelation, the permanent secretary noted that the game was revived by the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration to produce talents that would compete for the state in future sport competitions in the country.

However, nine institutions across the state are already taking part at the four days event as they would be participating in 12 different spotting events at the sports fiesta.

Among the institutions taking part are Crescent University Abeokuta; Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), Omu-Ijebu; College of Health Technology, Ilese Ijebu; DS Adegbenro Polytechnic, Itori.

Others are Federal College of Education (FCE), Osiele, Abeokuta; Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu Igbo; Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade; Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijebuode; and Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-iwoye.

Also, the game approved sports are athletics (selected track and field events), soccer, chess, badminton, table tennis, scrabble, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, ayo, judo and basketball.
