GATIG Games Has Come To Stay- Sports Commissioner

Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde has assured that the ongoing Gateway Tertiary Institution Games (GATIG) has come to stay in the state sports calendar year.

The commissioner stated this at the official opening ceremony of the games held at Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Hon. Kehinde who spiked-off the volleyball event to herald the games opening ceremony assured the sustenance of the games, he described as talents hunt event.

While he commended the sports council, officials and technical committee for their enthusiasm in ensuring the smoothness of the games.

However, in some of the matches played on Wednesday, in the male football event, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Football Team walloped Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic (AAPOLY) Football Team by 6/1 at the MKO Abiola International stadium, Kuto.

Also, Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED beat Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese by three goals to two. While in the female category, TASUED whitewashed AAPOLY by six unreplied goals.

Similarly, Babatunde of OOU defeated Akinwande Boluwatife of TASUED by two straight sets in the badminton men’s singles, just as Ajayi Samson of OOU lost to Akinlotan Idris of TASUED by two sets.

Ajasa Sherif of OOU defeated John Gideon of TASCE by two sets, while Ayomibe Emmanuel of TASCE lost to Robert Boluwatife of TASUED by 2/0.

Moreover, in the badminton female singles, Morafa Peace of TASUED lost to Adesanya Theresa of OOU. 2/0. Ajuwon Pelumi of OOU defeated Alabi Pelumi of TASUED 2/0.

In the same vein, TASUED, OOU and TASCE have qualified for the semifinals in the female table tennis event. The men’s singles has TASUED and OOU in three games qualified for the semifinals.
OOU and TASCE have qualified for the men’s doubles final.
