Edo State Government has pledged to give all necessary support to the state’s Ambassador to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Enoch Olaoluwa Adegoke, reassuring the provision of both moral and financial support needed to succeed in the Games.

Adegoke, who won the 100m gold medal for Edo State at the 2020 National Sports Festival, is the 12th Nigerian athlete to qualify for the Olympics in the track and field event.

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comr. Philip Shaibu, who virtually hosted the Olympic-bound sprinter on Monday, hailed the Edo athlete, reassuring the government’s support to ensure that he succeeds in Tokyo.

Shaibu pledged a cash gift from the state government to help the athlete prepare for the tournament, with a promise of more gifts upon return from the competition.

He further charged Adegoke to go into the competition in Tokyo with confidence and the indomitable Edo spirit, knowing that the government and people of the state are with him in prayers.

On his part, President, Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Alhaji Shehu Ibrahim, promised the Edo athlete an SUV if he wins any medal, reassuring that the Athletics Federation and the Federal Government will reward any athlete who wins a medal for the country.

On his part, Adegoke thanked the government for their support so far, and promised to do his best in representing the state and the country.

He also praised his coach for new techniques introduced during training, which has seen improvements in his performance thus far.
