Insecurity: Ogwa Ika Conference Cancelled, Ika South Residents React

The cancellation of popular Ogwa Ika Annual Conference citing security challenges in the state and the COVID-19 pandemic has received commendations from a cross section of residents of Ika South Local Government, Delta State.

The cancellation was made public recently by the Head, and collective leadership of Onu Ika Nigeria, Mr Daniel Usifo in Agbor.

According to Mr Usifo, the the apex social/cultural group of Ika nation decided on the cancellation after necessary consultation and consideration of the state of insecurity in the country generally.

Reacting to this cancellation, a cross section of Ika people said that the action of Onu Ika was in the right direction, considering the great threat by the Fulanis Jihadists threat to bomb Asaba and Agbor.

Speaking on the event, Mr Vincent Eluehike, a retired principal said that the present time does not call for so much funfair but vigilance, adding that occasions that attracts too much gathering should be avoided for now.

He went further to advise every resident of Ika nation to be very vigilant, as well as report any strange occurrence to the police or vigilante groups nearest to them.

On his part, Elder Patrick Ogwu called on the government of Delta State to put more efforts on the security matter in the state while disclosing that their farming business were already taken over by cattle headers whom he alleged, were more conversant with the bushes than the indigenes.

He applauded the governors of southern Nigeria on their stands on open grazing, but urged them to expedite the enactment of the operational laws that could give their decisions constitutional and legal backings.
