The leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS), Ogun State chapter have commended Senator Adeola Olamilekan Yayi resilience in ensuring that the Senate approved the upgrading of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro to University.
The passage of the bill that sought for the upgrade of the polytechnic to university status initially suffered setback at the 8th Senate but was reintroduced at the 9th Senate whereby it met with success.
With this development, the passage of the bill will instantly empower the institution to award degrees to students and further increased the institution’s research strength and add to the school’s pedagogical impacts.
This was disclosed by Comrade Damilola Kehinde Simeon, Chairman NANS Ogun JCC whereby he urged President Muhammad Buhari to as a matter of urgency assent to this bill and avoid any unnecessary bureaucracy that may serve as impediments.
Comrade Simeon hinted: “At a time when the continuous disregard of the academic sector from the Federal Government is reaching its climax, it is indeed heartwarming to see substantive, deliberate and intentional action being taken to ameliorate the rot in the sector and the same time catapult the educational system to a new high.
“As leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS) in Ogun State, we are ecstatic to hear of the passage of a bill that seeks for the upgrade of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro to a University by the Nigerian Senate.

“We recognize the tenacity of Senator Olamilekan Adeola for not backing off after the initial rejection of the bill at the 8th Senate, but rather he reintroduced it at the 9th Senate where it met with success.
“This singular act of doggedness has established Senator Adeola as a formidable friend of the students constituency.
“The timeliness and relevance of this bill cannot be overemphasized and such we urge President Muhammad Buhari to as a matter of urgency assent to this bill and avoid any unnecessary bureaucracy that may serve as impediments.
