Governor’s wife Restates Zero Tolerance For Gender Based Violence

Wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun has reiterated her commitment to zero tolerance for gender based violence.

This was noted in a statement by Iyabo Araba, Zonal Information Officer, Sagamu made available to Newsnigeriaonline.com.

Mrs. Abiodun stated this at the commissioning of the state’s first Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) supported by the United Nations For Population Agency (UNFPA) at Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu.

She noted that the commissioning of the center was in line with the Prince Abiodun’s mission of providing qualitative and affordable health care for the people through provision of medical examination and treatment for victims of gender based violence.

She appreciated all stakeholders who worked towards the success of the centre, imploring them to make judicious use of the facility and continue to support the present administration in its fight against gender based violence.

In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker appreciated the effort of UNFPA for supporting the state government in its fight against gender based violence, soliciting for building of more centers in the three senatorial districts of the state.

She explained the significance of the colour of the centre to include purple which signifies restoration of the survivor’s dignity, orange which signifies restoration of confidence, joy and emotional balance of the victim, while white signifies a fresh start.

In his goodwill message, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, Barr. Olumide Mustapha said the centre would further assist in getting evidence for a successful prosecution.

In her remarks, representative of UNFPA, Mrs. Ulla Elizabeth Muella explained the center would help survivors regained confidence and hope after treatment as gender based violence was a crime against the victim be it male or female which she said must stop.
