Ijeru Kingdom: Odun Oba Onpetu Holds In February


The Odun Oba Onpetu 2024 edition has been slated to commence from February 14th – 16th, 2024 at Ijeru Kingdom, Ogbomoso South Local Government Area, Oyo State.

The annual festival being celebrated across the kingdom usually feature all sons and daughters both at home and in Diaspora as well as guests and other dignitaries from all over the world to the ancient kingdom.

According to a statement from the Palace, it outlined that the day one of the Oba Onpetu festival will commence on February 14th, 2024 with the Night of Praise billed for the palace, whereby anointed men of God and gospel artistes are anticipated to feature at the open event

Similarly, the day two event on
Thursday will feature Culture Day. All attendees will have raw experience of culture as traditional drummers, bards, cultural dancers and local acrobatic professionals will be on hand to entertain the people.

In addition, local delicacies of eko (solid pap) and bean cake of various types- atuunu, seekesinin, akara elepo, fule among others will be served hot to all participants at the event.

However, day three on Friday, February 16th being the grand finale will hold at the Altar of Praise, Orile-Oje, where prayers will be offered for peace, progress and development of Onpetu Throne, Oluoje people both at home and diaspora, Oyo State and Nigeria at large.

Also, the traditional Iwure with Ade Are by Onpetu will follow while events will be concluded with the paying of homage to the monarch by the four Ruling Houses in the kingdom. They are Lagbami Osekun; Oluyale; Asamu Atoyebi, and Atobatele.

Meanwhile, as part of plans to make the days colourful and distinct, the materials for uniform dress are available at the palace for those interested.
