Igbinadolor Prevails At 27th BCGS Ladies Open Championship

Lady Captain, UBTH Golf Club, Ehis Igbinadolor proved her prowess over the weekend as she emerged overall winner of the 27th BCGS Ladies Open Championship.

Igbinadolor in the midst of over 150 golfers that teed-off at the four days exciting golf actions at Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS), Edo State played a total of 164 gross over two days at the championship to emerge victorious.

The colourful closing ceremony had in attendance Wife of Edo State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Maryam Shaibu; LGAN President, Juliet Monyei-Inyere ably represented by LGAN Vice President (Southern Zone), Sandra Monye-Emina, current and past Captain and Lady Captains and amongst.

Placing runner-up was Rita Izoje from Ibori Golf and Country Club (IGCC) with 170 gross while Love Ndareke recorded 171 for third position just as present and past LGAN National Vice President, Southern Zone, Sandra Emina and Deborah Otabor played 174 and 179 gross respectively to settle for fourth and fifth position.

Moreover, other winners at the championship included fmr. Lady Captain of IGCC, Angela Uwabor with 140 net over two days in the net category. Edith Edeki won the hcp 29-36 special category as Dr. Monica Obaedo won the veterans ladies with amazing 168 net over two days as well as Omosefe Osaghae who won on nine holes while super veterans award went to Mama Ivie Iyoha with 83 net.

In the men’s category, Huan Zheng played 64 net to win the hcp 0-18 ahead of Sam Awiaka who had 68 net just as Osaze Iyare won the best gross award with 81 gross. Oghene Felix Utaji won the hcp 19-28 cadre with 72 net while Sylvester Akhigbe and Dr. G. Ihenyen with the veterans and super veterans for playing 72 net and 88 net respectively.

BCGS Captain, Edward Ikponmwosa Osayande in his closing remarks expressed excitement at the turnout of golfers and guests who had found time to honour the championship despite their busy schedules while he promised them more golfing actions before the year ends.

Also, LGAN President Monyei-Inyere in her speech congratulated the Lady Captain, Dr. Osagiede for hosting the event in spite of the economic decline in the country.

In the same vein, President of Benin Club 1931, Pharm. Fred Iboi remarked on the mutual relationship which golf game has helped to knit together amongst the diverse men and women from all works of life.

Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie Esq. commended Dr. Osagiede and other ladies for the initiative in organizing great championship which has become a trailblazer.

Meanwhile, host lady captain, Dr. Osagiede in her admonition thanked the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and wife, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki; Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu and wife, Mrs. Maryam Shaibu; SSG, Osarodion Ogie and all other cabinet members for their overwhelming support towards the championship.

She hereby thanked the management of the Benin Club 1931, BCGS and committee members as well as all guests. “I hope you all enjoyed playing the course and refreshed adequately as it is customary in Benin, hence, we are known as the home of hospitality.

“As you returned to your destinations, I pray that God Almighty grants each and everyone of you journey mercies back home. Thank you and God bless.”

Highlight of the closing ceremony was presentation of trophies and prizes to all golfers who excelled in their various categories at the championship.
