Asiwaju of Orile Imo, High Chief Olalekan Olakunle has tasked youths in the southern part in Nigeria to provide credible leadership, good conduct and enviable character aimed at making Ogun and Nigeria the haven of peace and economic prosperity.
Chief Olakunle gave this admonition on Thursday at his investiture as the Grand Patron, Southern Youth Assembly of Nigeria (SYAN) during the 2nd National Summit and Inauguration ceremony held organised by them in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
The summit also witnessed the presentation of awards to many others, among the awardees were Engr. Funmilayo Waheed-Adekojo, Chief Adunni Kazim and amongst.
The national summit programme themed ‘The role of youth in the sociopolitical and economic development of Nigeria’ had in attendance three representatives from all the states across the Southern Nigeria, to chat the way forward for their course.
Chief Olakunle was at the investiture with his entourage of Baales from Orile Imo in Obafemi Owode local government, Orile Oko in Remo North local governments, friends and well wishers who came from far and near to celebrate with him on the occasion.
In his speech, Asiwaju Orile Imo noted that youth must recognised their responsibilities as part of the critical components of the society while enjoined them to be law abiding always, supportive of the laudable projects if the state and federal government as well.
“In having the support of the youth, the government at various levels could achieve a lot for the society delivering dividends of democracy to the greatest number of our people without sacrificing or mortgaging the interests of the few remaining, no matter how few in number.
“I m very much aware that this appointment comes with the responsibilities of service and commitment to every good cause, programme, ideas and ideals to which the southern youth is also being committed.
“Youth is the link bridge or bridge head which connects the present phase to, and with the future development of the society. We cannot therefore over emphasize the importance of youth in nation building, having regard to the socio-economic and political development of the society.”
In addition, at the programme, stakeholders also urged Nigerian Youth to get involve in the nation building process as well as prepare themselves for leadership positions.
The stakeholders urged them to do everything within their capacities to equip themselves for the task ahead, appealing to them not to hide themselves from playing active politics.
Meanwhile, speaking on the reason for organising the summit, Chairman of the planning committee, Ife Ahmed said the event was part of the youth efforts to contribute their quota to the nation building.
