Fmr. L/Captain, Otabor Triumphs At BCGS Lady Captain’s Inaugural Golf Tourney


Former Lady Captain, Debby Otabor received a standing ovation at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) Lady Captain’s Inaugural Golf Tournament concluded over the weekend.

Veteran Otabor (hcp 16) against all odds was declared winner in the ladies category of the one day inaugural tournament organised by Lady Captain of the Ladies Division, Mrs. Foluso Ibukun Oboro.

The fmr South-South Zonal Vice-President of Lady Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN) having been away from the game for about three months played a net score of 66 to defeat other ladies.

In her winner’s speech,she thanked Almighty God for the victory after a long absence from the game, adding that she held the lady captain, Mrs. Oboro in high esteem to be part of the tournament.

Placing second was the immediate past South-South Zonal Vice-President of LGAN, Sandra Emina (hcp 11) with 76 net while fmr lady captain, Suwadetu Mahmud (19) recorded 79 net to pick third position just as O. Chukwu (hcp 36) settled for fourth place with 79 net.

The duo of Ehis Igbinadolor and Osazee Iyare won the best gross in the ladies and men’s category with 85 and 75 gross respectively at the tournament which featured 120 golfers from South-South zone and beyond.

Also, Omosefe Osaghae (hcp 31) won the veteran category having played 80 net as fmr. lady captain, Juliet Ugiagbe (hcp 30) gathered 81 net to place second fiddle. Prof. Josephine Mokwunyen (hcp 29) won the super veteran cadre with 72 net.

In the regular men’s category, Victor Amadu (hcp 9) set the pace as he emerged winner with an amazing 71 net just as O Adams (hcp 23) and Omo Izedonwen (hcp 13) settled for second and third place.

Similarly, Chief Sam Awiaka (hcp 17) with 74 net claimed the veteran cadre trophy ahead of A. Eweka (hcp 22) who played 75 net while fmr. Captain of the club, Chief Afam Obanor (hcp 18) placed third with 77 net. Also, Dr. Gabriel Ihenyen (hcp 22) won the super veteran category with 85 net.

Chief Awiaka and Mrs. Maryann Shaibu won the men’s and ladies nearest the pin award while J. Obanor and Ehis Igbinadolor won the men’s and ladies longest drive award respectively.

Meanwhile, lady captain in her vote of thanks appreciated all members and guests for deeming it fit to partake in the tournament while she thanked individuals and corporate bodies who supported her in ensuring that the event was successful. recalls that golfers from Ibori Golf and Country Club (IGCC), Asaba; Ogunu Golf Resort, Warri; Sapele Athletic Club Golf Section, Sapele Town, Delta State; UBTH Golf Club, Benin-City and many others teed-off at the event.
