Finalists Emerge As Gen. Adebayo S/West Junior Tennis Masters Ends Saturday


As the maiden Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo South-West Junior Tennis Masters holding in Ekiti State enters day three, more finalists have emerged today in various categories.

The tennis tournament which served-off on Wednesday Ekiti State Tennis Centre, Trade Fair Complex, Ado Ekiti, the state capital has met the expectations of the players, officials and other stakeholders at the event.

In today’s semifinals, Oluwaseyi Ogunsakin from Ekiti lost to Mubarak Abdulganeey of Oyo State by 6/0, 6/0 in the U-14 boys category to set up final play with his brother, Oluwaseun Ogunsakin, who beat Zayan AbdulRaheem yesterday.

Also, in the U-14 girls category, Peace Agbeje of Ondo beat her compatriot, Sarah Adisa in two straight sets of 6/0, 6/0. Earlier on Thursday, the Ekiti derby between Success Ogunjobi and Foluke Ola ended in favour of Success in the semifinal clash.

In another semifinal clash, Oluwaseun Ogunsakin defeated Monday Odey by 7/6, 1/6, 7/6 in the U-16 boys category, as he faces Mubarak Abdulganeey from Oyo, who edged out Imoleayo Adisa from Ondo in the semifinal on Thursday.

Similarly, the U-16 girls semifinal, Ondo tennis youngster, Alice Paul lost to Faith Adeusi of Ekiti in two straight sets, and she will play Esther Oni who beat her Ekiti State compatriot, Toyin Adeniran in the first semifinal held on Thursday.

Coaches from the participating states chorused that the tournament was a viable way to engage upcoming tennis players from the geopolitical zone ahead of future championships.

Meanwhile, the tennis event will eventually comes to a close tomorrow at the tennis centre, and lots of dignitaries are anticipated to grace the closing ceremony of the tournament sponsored by the Minister of Trades and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo in memory of his father, Major General Adeyinka Adebayo.
