Edo 2020: Team Ondo Picks Volleyball, Abula Gold, Beats Team Edo

High expectations of Team Ondo to win medals at the 20th National Sports Festival in Benin City, Edo State has yielded result when the team won two gold medals on Saturday.

The two gold medals being the first for the state since the sports festival started last week came in through the game of volleyball and abula respectively played at the University of Benin sports complex, Ugbowo.

In the men’s volleyball event, Team Ondo beat host, Team Edo by three sets to one set, thus picked the gold medal.

The team demonstrated the stuff they were made of by beating Edo and other states hands down to confirm its superiority having won the tournament several time since last decade

Moreover, the second gold of the day was raked in courtesy of the abula players who defeated Team Edo in two straight sets.

The game of Abula suffered several postponement due to an allegation that the team paraded unaccredited players which forced the technical officials to summon an emergency meeting before the final decision.

The outcome of the meeting later enabled the spirit of sportsmanship to reign, since the aim of festival is to forestall peace among the 36 states ended in favour of Team Ondo.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Sports Council (OSSC), General Manager, Mr Henry Babatunde could not but rejoiced with the best team in Nigeria, who won the festival volleyball gold for the council Information Officer, Adenike Sanni, who celebrated her birthday at the venue.
