Edo 2020: Hon. Adams Charges Team Ogun For More Gold, Praises Team Resilience

Hon. Sola Adams, Chairman, House Committee on Youths and Sports, at the Ogun State House of Assembly has charged the Team Ogun to aspire for more gold medals at the 20th National Sports Festival holding in Benin City, Edo State.

The biennial sports festival tagged ‘Edo 2020’ which commenced from April 2nd – 14th, 2021 is featuring all the 36 states in the country including Federal Capital Territory.

The lawmaker has been in the ancient Benin City since the arrival of the contingent over the weekend and have been moving from one venue to another venue to give maximum support to the state athletes and officials.

In a chat with sports writers at the boxing venue, Akenzua Cultural Centre, Hon. Adams, representing Ijebu East State Constituency commended the state athletes for their resilience and determination to excel and make the state proud at the festival.

He revealed that with what he has witnessed across various venues, he believed that Ogun State is blessed with talented athletes and officials who were well disciplined and ready to win more laurels for the state.

He however charged them to perform well and win more gold and other medals for the state, noting that the state government is doing its best to bring more development to sports activities in due season.

“I am expecting more gold, silver and bronze medals from the athletes, and all the good things that follow the sports festival. I discovered that our team is all prepared and planned for this festival. By God’s grace at the end of the festival, our team will come out victorious.

“I never expected the large crowd seeing at venues, I am very impress with the outcome and the way Edo State government is organising the event. I am looking forward for Ogun State to host this kind of sports festival.

“With all these, government will generate revenue from people that will be coming for the event. People will buy things and it will boost the internal revenue. State economy will improve as they will not return to their states without buying from our markets. Our market women will make enough money too,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Team Ogun has won two gold, one silver and seven bronze medals in various sports events namely taekwondo, darts, badminton, kingfu and many others.
