Edo 2020: Camp Bubbles As Team Ogun Gathers 16 Medals On Super Sunday

Things are getting better for Team Ogun at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival in Benin City, Edo State as the state gold hauling continued on Sunday.

The state athletes in fulfilling their obligations carted home four gold, seven silver and five bronze medals totalling sixteen medals in various sports events.

The Sunday blessing gold victory started from the athletics event when kudoro Taiwo beat other contenders in Steeple Chase women’s event to give Team Ogun its first gold right inside the main bowl, Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.

Also at the venue, Oluwakemi Oladipupo registered another gold for Team Ogun in para-athletics in T53/T54 class ahead of her compatriot, Aina Dauda who add silver medal to the state medals table.

Just as sports events were going on across other venues, Team Ogun won another gold in darts courtesy of the pair of Ololade Adeyemi and Toluwanimi Odedola in the 501 ladies double event held at Imaguero College.

Darts golden lady, Ololade who had earlier won three gold medals in 701 event, TDB event and 301 event respectively inspired her partner, Odetola to win the doubles event gold for Team Ogun making it gold number four in the game.

The fourth gold for Team Ogun was raked in from scrabble female team event through Bukunmi Afolayan and Bisi Adekansi.

In the para-powerlifting event, Tope Oladele registered her name on medals list when she won silver in the 51kg class, while Sogbade Azizat won bronze in the 67kg class at the held at the gymnasium hall, Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.

The 51kg event gold was won by Lucy Ejike of Team Enugu while Team Delta Maria Komo won the bronze, just as 67kg women’s class gold went to Team Delta lifter as Team Imo grabbed the bronze.

In addition to medals won at the same venue, Imran Adewole won silver medal in gymnastics pommel horse male event as well as bronze in haul event.

In the weightlifting event, Monica Uwem of Team Ogun won two silver, one bronze in the weightlifting 55kg women’s event to increase the state medals. Team Lagos lifter’s, Adijat Olarinoye won three gold, while Onome Didi of Lagos won one silver and one bronze.

Meanwhile, Team Ogun has gathered a total of forty nine medals comprising of thirteen gold, seven silver, and twenty nine bronze medals as at time of reporting.
