Dr. Dere, Otabor Win Big Goats At BCGS Easter Golf Kitty

Easter celebration at Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) was filled with fun as Dr. Anslem Dere and former Lady Captain, Debby Otabor were adjudged champions at this year BCGS Easter Kitty held on Monday.

The year 2022 Easter Kitty packaged by the Ikponmwosa Osayande led management team featured an impressive turn out of members numbering about sixty.

Dr. Dere in the men’s category played a net score of 70 to emerge winner ahead of Felix Utaji whose net score was 71, while Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwe (hcp 14) won the third prize with 72 net score.

In the ladies cadre, Mrs. Otabor (hcp 16), popularly called Lady Pro played super extra ordinary golf with amazing 67 net to beat former Lady Captain, UBTH Golf Club, Sandra Emina (hcp 14), who played 71 net while Joy Omorogiuwa (hcp 34) placed third with 72 net.

The winners, Dere and Otabor were however went home with two big goats while the second and third place winners received a bag of rice and groundnut oil respectively.

Similarly, the veteran ladies star prize was won by Marian Benka-Coker (hcp 29) for playing 78 net just as R. Osahon (hcp 24) claimed the veteran men’s event with an impressive 75 net thus beat to the second place, former Captain, Chief Afam Obanor ((hcp 18) who netted 77.

In another development, Osaze Iyare (hcp 3) continued his fine form as he was declared the best gross winner having played a total of 75 gross. His effort hereby yielded a bag rice at the end of the event.

Speaking to Newsnigeriaonline.com.ng on the significance of the kitty, BCGS Secretary, Hon. Osazuwa Ehiorobo described the turn out of members very impressive, noting that golfers played till late afternoon.

The secretary, also known as OZ noted that since the day was Easter holiday, many workers, several practitioners, businessmen and many others came out in large numbers to exhibit their golfing skills.

He added that though the course became difficult to play on the day due to heavy downpour that fell on Sunday night, which made the terrain changed for the golfing experience.
