Exactly seven days to the commencement of the 4th Orodje of Okpe Golf Tournament in Delta State, more golf clubs are now jostling for slots to participate in the tournament.
The Delta State Monarch tournament which tee-off from Friday, March 4th to 5th, 2022 at Sapele Athletic Club Golf Section, Sapele is attracting more golfers across the country.
Information gathered revealed that more golf clubs from the Southern and Northern part of Nigeria that were not even thought of extending invitations to are seriously eager to take part in the event.
With this development, it is an indication and attestation to the quality of the tournament being sponsored by Seplat Energy, an oil giant company in Nigeria, with a track record as one the best organised golf event in Nigeria.
Also, it was noted that though the club has a target of one hundred and fifty golfers in both men’s and ladies categories respectively, but with this latest development, it might have to increase the expectations and to accomodate the willing clubs members.
Newsnigeriaonline.com.ng scooped that invitations have been sent to golf clubs such as Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba; Ogunnu Golf Resort, Warri; Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS); UBTH Golf Club, Benin City.
Others were Arsenal Golf Club, Owerri, Imo State; IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja; Ikoyi Golf Club, Lagos and many others.
Earlier on, Captain of the golf section, Okakuro Gilbert Aghogho stated that the golf event tagged ‘HRM Orodje 2022’ is sponsored by Seplat Energy, and it will feature golfers from different parts of the country.
He further explained that the event is to commemorate the 15th Coronation Anniversary of Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Orhue 1 Major General Felix Mujaperuo (rtd), a prolific golfer, and the Grand Patron of the club.
The Captain, who also is the Chairman, Planning Committee said: “The tournament is a clarion for golfers all over the country to rally round one of their own; Chairman, Traditional Rulers Council of Delta state, The Orodje of Okpe Kingdom. This serves as an invitation to all and sundry of Okpe Kingdom, and golfers all over.”
