BCGS: Gen. Iyare, Oriasotie Shine At Mavericks Group Monthly Mug/Birthday Kitty


The October edition of Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) Mavericks Kitty Group Monthly Mug/Birthday Kitty ended in grand style as celebrants dominated the golf event.

The group monthly birthday kitty held at the BCGS, golf course, GRA Benin-City on Tuesday, October 31st was to celebrate its members, Gen. Oscar Iyare (rtd) and BCGS Secretary, Victor Oriasotie esq., born in October.

However, at the end of the kitty Gen. Iyare continued his winning streak as he emerged overall winner while Oriasotie won the best gross award.

Placing first runner-up was, University of Benin Professor, Anthony Emina while Engr. Emmanuel Omofuma settled for the second runner-up in the kitty which featured a total of twenty two golfers.

Gen. Iyare victory on Tuesday makes it the third trophy he has won within the last four months this year, having won in July, August and October edition. Also, it makes a total of 12 trophies he has won since the establishment of the Mavericks Kitty Group almost three years ago.

In his admonition, Chairman of the group, Lawson Ugiagbe esq., commended all members for their resilience and support towards the development of the group.

Also, he used the occasion to commend Dr. Matthew Oriakhi over his wife, Mrs Betty Oriakhi, Lady Captain for successful organisation of 2023 BCGS Ladies Open concluded over the weekend, noting that the event was talk of town and historic.

Meanwhile, in his victory speech, Gen. Iyare said: “There is no magic to wining. When you work for it, you will get the victory. I have probably looking ahead to win this October edition, being my birthday month.

“I am happy to win today. I started training since two weeks ago ahead for this event, and today, God has crowned my effort with victory.”

In the same vein, the celebrant, and best gross winner, Oriasotie who could not hide his joy thanked all members of the Mavericks, for deeming it fit to celebrate him on his birthday, saying that he would forever be grateful for the honour bestowed on him.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the trophy to the winner while celebrants were prayed for, after then was the entertainment of members and guests.
