
The 2023 Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) Captain’s Inaugural Golf Tournament ended in a fashionable way as the the duo of Dr. Omo Izedonmwen and Ehis Igbinadolor emerged winners in men’s and ladies category.
Dr. Izedonmwen (hcp 16) claimed the men’s hcp 0 – 18 trophy with a net score of 72 while count-back record settled the second to fourth position as Gen. Oscar Iyare (rtd) beat Engr. Ben Oghumah (hcp 8) and F. Aganmwonyi (hcp 14) respectively having all played 75 net.
The ladies hcp 0 – 28 category was another record game as Igbinadolor (hcp 11) cart home the trophy with amazing 72 net followed by fmr. Lady Captain, Suwadetu Mahmud (hcp 19) who had 79 net while LGAN South-South Zonal Vice-President, Sandra Emina (hcp 14) with 80 net beat Joy Omorogiuwa on count-back for third place.
Moreover, top handicap Osazee Iyare with 79 gross won the men’s best gross award while Debby Otabor with 90 gross won the ladies category of the inaugural tournament held for two days with over 150 golfers across Nigeria.
BCGS Captain, Joseph Idahosa in his closing remarks appreciated the BCGS Executive Committee, members, guests golfers for making the event a great success beyond his expectation.
Joezaza as fondly called who was showered with encomiums for his leadership quality and humility hereby promised to leave a legacy that his administration will forever be known, adding that more tournaments are in process.
Therefore, other winners at the tournament included O. Akhigbe (hcp 27) with 85 net in the men’s hcp 19 – 28 category, Foluso Oboro (hcp 35) with 78 net in the ladies hcp 29 – 36 cadre.
Also, Sir Tony Aghedo played 75 net to win the veteran men’s while Dr. Jackson Gaius-Obaseki with 86 net won the super veteran men’s. Also, Prof. Mrs A.O Dawodu won the veteran ladies with 81 net just as Chief Mrs Ivie Iyoha dominated super veteran ladies category with 88 net. Sala Oise Esq., (UBTH) won the guest ladies with 73 net.
Meanwhile, the longest drive Day 1 hole 11 men’s and ladies waa won by Pharm. E. Enomase (UBTH) and Mrs Edith Edeki. The Day 1 nearest the pin hole 14 winners were D. Iberi and Mrs Foluso Oboro
The Day 2 longest drive hole 1 men’s won by O. Moses (UBTH) while D. Osmond from Lagos won the ladies category. Dr. O. Izedonmwen and Ehis Igbinadolor won the nearest the pin hole 2 men’s and ladies respectively.
Highlights of the closing event and dinner was presentation of trophies and other prizes to winners and runners-up in different categories, while entertainment and dance party lasted.
