In what could be regarded as one of the biggest victories of his golfing career, Mr. Julius Nwachukwu has finally joined the Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) Mavericks Kitty Group Hall of Fame on Tuesday.

Nwachukwu won the Mavericks Kitty Group Monthly Mug/Birthday Kitty for August edition, to become the latest new entrant into the league of past winners of the monthly mug inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The Chief of Staff of the kitty group who has been the custodian of the kitty group trophy for almost two years, played a net score of 75 to win the event that featured large turnout of golfers in spite of the rainfall.

Coming close at the event was Professor Anthony Emina with a net score of 76 while the Chairman of the kitty group, Lawson A. Ugiagbe esq., after a good chase for the trophy landed in third place with 77 net.

However, fmr. champion of the monthly mug, Gen. Oscar Iyare (rtd.) who has consistently won the gross award on several occasions further added another one with a total of 81 gross on Tuesday.

In his winner chat, Nwachukwu also known as Steady expressed gratitude to the Almighty God for making the victory a reality after many events held by the group.

He noted that he has been eyeing the trophy since many months having been the custodian of the trophy on monthly basis but never won it .

“I am happy to have become a winner now and been inducted into the Mavericks Kitty Group Hall of Fame. It is what I have been looking unto since. Thank God it becomes reality today.

“I have been knocking on the door of this trophy since but I am lucky to play among the champions such as Elder Monday Ikhuregbe and Gen. Oscar Iyare (rtd), they kept encouraging me not to lose the game while playing.

“Their encouragement kept me flowing and concentrating, and I eventually came out strong and won the event. My desire is to defend the trophy at the next edition.

In the same vein, Chairman of the group, Lawson Ugiagbe esq., in a chat with Newsnigeriaonline.com.ng expressed his happiness that the winner was able to win this time around.

“I am very happy for him, having been the custodian of the trophy for almost two years, assuming he does not win before December would have been something else.

“Though, over the past months, he tried to win but didn’t meet up. This time around, he made it, it’s a thing of joy for me and others to welcome him to the hall of fame.

“He deserves the victory today because he is a good golfer but just that he has not been so lucky to win all these past months. He has paid his dues.”

Meanwhile, highlight of the closing event was the presentation of kitty trophy to the latest winner while birthday celebrants were honoured just as the entertainment lasted till evening.
