Akpieye, Michael Shine At SAC Golf Section Captain’s Inaugural Tourney

The Sapele Athletic Club (SAC) Golf Section Captain’s Inaugural Golf Tournament came to an amazing colourful end over the weekend as Ezekiel Michael and Lucky Akpieye were declared champions at the event.

The inaugural tournament organized under the leadership of the club Captain, Alexander Verhees in conjunction with his Executive team featured over a hundred golfers across the country.

At the end of the well organized golf tournament, Michael won the SAC golf section men’s event with a net score of 70 while Joseph Ogbidhe beat Stephen Asagba on count-back having both played 72 net to place second and third respectively.

John Okojie played 73 gross to win the best gross award at the event being the third tournament to be organized this year by the club.

In the ladies category, Akpieye, the Lady Captain of the club recorded 67 net to emerge victorious just as Patience Ogbidhe secured the second position with 81 net.Also, Kenneth Orubebe who recorded 73 net won the veterans category while Chief Faith Gbagi with 83 net emerged winner in the super veterans event.

In his remarks, Captain of the club, Alexander Verhees who was amazed at the large turnout appreciated all the sponsors, his Executives and members for their resilience in making the tournament a huge success.

He added: “Sapele Athletic Club Golf Section is growing in numbers just as the club is fast attracting more golfers due to its serenity and lush green golf course. We have expectations that all the golfers here today and many more will come again for another tournaments before the year ends.”

Other winners included Kenneth Okoye and Rita Izoje won the guest men and ladies. Suwadetu Mahmud and Okoye won the ladies and men’s nearest the pin prize. Ehis Igbinadolor and Uche Nkwor won the ladies and men’s longest drive award respectively.

Moreover, trophies and cash award were presented to the winners and runners-up in different categories while golfers who registered for the tournament went home with a 5kg Semolina by Life Flour Mill coupled with the goodie bag.

Meanwhile, Chief Gbagi described the inaugural tournament as the best in over a 100 year of the club existence, adding that he has not witnessed such in his over three decades as a member of the club
