As the Kingsley Okunbo @ 60 Invitational Golf Tournament (Pro-Am) tees-off today, September 6th – 10th, 2022 at Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS), over 80 caddies have teed-off on the first day of the tournament.
Today’s caddies event is part of activities marking the Diamond Jubilee celebration of Engr Kingsley Okunbo, the two term Captain of the BCGS, who had contributed immensely towards the development of golf in Edo State and in Nigeria.
According to the Caddy Officer, John Madu in a chat with Newsnigeriaonline.com.ng at the club, he disclosed that over eighty caddies will storm the club golf course, Benin City to vie for trophies and other prizes.
Also, he revealed that the caddies tournament will feature the male senior and junior categories as well as female caddies respectively.
However, the golf tournament is organised by Committee of Friends led by Ignatius Aigbokhaode, and it will feature no fewer than 200 golfers from various golf clubs across the country.
Aigbokhaode, also a former Captain of BCGS remarked that the golf event shall be quite eventful, full of fun and fanfare.
He said: “The golf event will feature golfers from Ibori Golf and Country Club (IGCC), Asaba, Ogunnu Golf Resort, Warri; UBTH Golf Club, Benin; Ikeja Golf Club, and Ikoyi Golf Club, Lagos; IBB Golf and Country Club, FCT, Port-Harcourt Golf Club, Rivers, and many others.”
In the same vein, the BCGS Competition and Handicap Secretary, Stephen Ebaretonbofa confirmed the caddies tournament on Tuesday, adding that Professional and Eaglets golfers will tee-off on Wednesday.
Ebaretonbofa stressed: “On Thursday, men’s hcp 19-28, ladies hcp 29-36, all men’s and ladies veteran and super veteran have scores to settle, just as praise/worship and thanksgiving service/open house reception hold at Engr. Okunbo house by 11 am.
“Moreover, on Friday will involve men’s hcp 1-18 and ladies hcp 1-28. Those that make cut shall join all guests to play the grand finale on Saturday 10th September 2022. The cocktail party to welcome guests shall hold on Friday evening 9th September 2022.
“The ceremonial tee-off however shall hold by 9am on Saturday during the final day of the tournament. Also, the presentation of trophies and dinner party commences 4pm same day.
“We look forward to a very memorable and fun filled golf tournament.”
Meanwhile, lots of trophies and other fabulous prizes will be presented to all those who excelled in their various categories as well as individual cadres.
