2nd Aba Ladies Open Golf Championship Will Be A Bigger, Memorable Event- Lady Captain


Lady Captain, Aba Sports Golf Club, Oluchi Oguejiofor has revealed that the Club is fully prepared and ready to make the 2nd Aba Ladies Open Golf Championship a bigger and memorable event.

The championship is billed to tee-off from from April 27th – 29th, 2023 at the prestigious Aba Sports Golf Club, Abia State with no fewer than 200 golfers anticipated to participate in the event.

According to the lady captain in a message made available to Newsnigeriaonline.com.ng, she stated that all is set for this championship with over 200 golfers from across the country expected to grace the event.

Lady Oguejiofor said: “I was elected the lady captain on May 23rd, 2022 alongside my Captain, Chief Nduka Nwachukwu to stir the ship of this great club for the next two years.

“Our 1st Aba Ladies Open Golf Championship which was well attended drawing over 200 golfers from across the country and West Africa held from February 27th – 29th, 2019 under the Lady Captainship of Dame Iyom Ongodi Nkwoji, who is currently Life Vice President of PGAN. As you are aware, it was adjudged the best ladies open for 2019 in this part of the region.

“You know it is a tradition that every lady captain of each club must organise ladies open championship during her tenure. This is regarded as a very important achievement which attracts more respect for her when she bows out from that office. This is why it is important and the event scheduled to be another best to be recorded.

“The event starts on Thursday, April, 27th with ladies hcp 29 – 36, and veteran men’s playing as well as cocktail and arrival ceremonies. Ladies hcp 0 – 28 will play on Friday with men joining them on Saturday as well as sponsors.

“There will be tantalizing entertainment all through the event with variety of foods and assorted drinks. Prizes as usual will be unparalleled.

“Aba Golf 72 PAR course being one of the most challenging courses in Nigeria is being well prepared to accommodate all. Stroke play format will be used for the event currently open for all golfers.”

Furthermore, lady Oluchi noted that Aba Sports Club Golf being the host stands out as a magnificent edifice with a serene environment. It is worthy of note that our golf course is one of the oldest golf courses in Nigeria and has a challenging terrain with colonial trees.

She remarked: “The club recently accommodated and hosted over 220 golfers at the Captains and Lady Captains Inaugural Tournament which held from October 14-15th, 2022 at our prestigious club and so we are prepared and ready to make this tourney a bigger and memorable event.
