
Aba Sports Club Golf Section in Abia State will witness three days of massive turnout of golfers as the 2nd Aba Ladies Open Golf Championship Tees-off today.
The 2nd edition of the championship that is taking place at the club is anticipated to attract over 200 golfers across the country.
Opening the golf course for commencement of the championship today are ladies hcp 29 – 36, and veteran men’s playing while the cocktail and arrival ceremony will hold later in the evening.
Moreover, quest for the championship trophy will tee-off with hcp 0 – 28 lady golfers on Friday, being Day one, since it is a game of gross while their game continues following day.
Similarly on Saturday will feature men and sponsors having their playing day at the course just as the overall winner in the ladies category will eventually emerge while the presentation of prizes to all winners is slated for evening.
However, the Lady Captain, Aba Sports Golf Club, Oluchi Oguejiofor in a chat with Newsnigeriaonline.com.ng disclosed that the club is fully prepared and ready to make the championship a bigger and memorable event for all the participants.
She revealed that it is significant and tradition for every lady captain in various golf clubs across the country to organise ladies open championship during her tenure.
“This is regarded as a very important achievement which attracts more respect for her when she bows out from that office. This is why it is important and the event is scheduled to be another best to be recorded in the history of Lady Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN).
“I was elected the Lady Captain on May 23rd, 2022 alongside my Captain, Chief Nduka Nwachukwu to stir the ship of this great club for the next two years.
“Our 1st Aba Ladies Open Golf Championship which was well attended drawing over 200 golfers from across the country and West Africa held in February, 2019.
“It was held during the tenure of the Lady Captain, Dame Iyom Ongodi Nkwoji, who is currently Life Vice President of PGAN. As you are aware, it was adjudged the best ladies open for 2019 in this part of the region,” Lady Oguejiofor said.
Furthermore, she repeated: “There will be tantalizing entertainment all through the event with variety of foods and assorted drinks. Prizes as usual will be unparalleled.
“Aba Golf 72 PAR course being one of the most challenging courses in Nigeria is being well prepared to accommodate all. Stroke play format will be used for the event currently open for all golfers.
“Aba Sports Club being the host stands out as a magnificent edifice with a serene environment. It is worthy of note that our golf course is one of the oldest golf courses in Nigeria and has a challenging terrain with colonial trees.”
